Who this service is for
This vascular diagnosis consultation is appropriate for adults with:
- A venous or arterial Doppler ultrasound whose report nobody has explained to you in detail
- A CT angiogram or MR angiogram with vascular findings that need interpreting
- An abnormal or unclear ankle-brachial index
- A diagnosis of chronic venous insufficiency and the need to know what stage it is at and what that means
- A history of deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism, with questions about follow-up, how long to continue anticoagulation or the risk of recurrence
- Known peripheral arterial disease — stable intermittent claudication — that needs review
- An abdominal aortic aneurysm under a surveillance programme, with reports to review
- Suspected post-thrombotic syndrome after a previous thrombosis
- Raynaud's phenomenon, acrocyanosis or other vasomotor disorders that need diagnostic guidance
- A second opinion on a vascular diagnosis or on a surgical recommendation you have already received
- International residents and expats who need vascular test interpretation in Spanish
What this service is — and what it is not
This consultation covers:
- Medical interpretation of vascular tests you have already had
- Linking the test report to your symptoms — which is where most reports fall short
- Staging of chronic venous disease and an explanation of what each stage means
- Requests for any investigations still needed to complete the diagnosis
- A written treatment and follow-up plan
- A second opinion on a diagnosis or a procedure recommendation
- Coordination of referral to vascular surgery or interventional phlebology when indicated
This service does not cover:
- Performing the tests. Doppler ultrasound, the ankle-brachial index and imaging tests are done in person: this consultation interprets and requests them, it does not perform them
- Vascular emergencies. Suspected acute deep vein thrombosis, acute arterial ischaemia and severe abdominal or lower back pain in a patient with a known aneurysm are emergencies: go to the emergency department or call 112
- Procedures and interventions — sclerotherapy, endovenous ablation, angioplasty or surgery — which require in-person assessment
- Urgent adjustment of anticoagulation for active bleeding, which is a hospital emergency
Vascular test review — how it works
Upload your reports and images before your appointment: venous or arterial Doppler ultrasound, ankle-brachial index, CT angiogram, MR angiogram, blood tests including thrombophilia screening or D-dimer, and reports from previous hospital admissions. The doctor reviews them before the video call.
During the consultation, each test is explained in plain language: where there is reflux and how long it lasts, which venous segments are affected, whether there is residual obstruction after a thrombosis, what degree of arterial stenosis is documented and what your ankle-brachial index result means.
By the end you know three things: what you have, what still needs investigating and what happens next.

What the consultation includes
Advance review of your documents
The reports and images you provide are reviewed before the video call, so consultation time is spent explaining and deciding, not reading.
Interpreting the results
Each finding is translated into practical consequences: what explains your symptoms, what is an incidental finding of no significance and what needs follow-up.
Requests for further tests
When a test is still needed to complete the diagnosis, the request is issued the same day, to be carried out at a private centre near you.
Written plan
You receive a report with the diagnosis, the indicated treatment, the compression regimen where appropriate, the targets for risk factor control and the follow-up schedule.
Second opinion
If you already have a recommendation for surgery or a procedure, the available documentation is reviewed and you are told what it is based on, what alternatives exist and which questions are worth asking.
Coordinated referral
When interventional treatment or in-person assessment is appropriate, referral is coordinated with the full clinical report.
Vascular diagnosis in Spain — the access problem
Doppler ultrasound is an accessible test in Spain; the clinical interpretation that should go with it, much less so. It is common to leave the imaging centre with a technical report and wait weeks for someone to relate it to your symptoms and decide what to do.
That wait matters. In venous disease it determines when compression is started or reflux is treated; in peripheral arterial disease, when control of cardiovascular risk begins, which is what really determines the prognosis.
This consultation shortens that gap: a review of your tests with a written plan, from anywhere in Spain.
